A week of service prescribed a new path for Austin Theisz, exposing him to a world of opportunities. The exercise science major from Terre Haute, Ind., came to Indiana State with hopes of becoming a physical therapist, but he diagnosed his true calling after a service trip to Ecuador with Timmy Global Health. Timmy Global Health brings students interested in healthcare together to create sustainable healthcare practices around the world, and Theisz serves as the organization’s vice-president of community service. While in Ecuador, Theisz and fellow Sycamores volunteered at a local clinic, providing treatment to those who needed it most.
Because of this experience, Theisz started working as a scribe at Union Hospital, the next step to pursuing his new dream of becoming a physician assistant. Theisz helps physicians serve patients more efficiently while learning valuable skills for his career.
For Theisz, Indiana State, the Honors College, and Timmy Global Health created a welcoming environment to thrive, and, inspired by Blue, he hopes to make the same difference in global healthcare.
